TODAY - by Unknown

Today is the beginning of a new day.
God has given me this day to use as I will.
I can waste it …
or use it for good.
But what I do today is important because
I am exchanging a day of my life for it.

When tomorrow comes,
This day will be gone forever.
Leaving in its place

Something that I have traded for it.
I want it to be gain and not loss,
Good and not evil,
Success and not failure,
In order that I shall not regret
The price that I have paid for it.

(terjemahan bebasku)....

Hari ini adalah awal hari baru
Tuhan berikanku hari ini
Untuk kugunakan seturut kehendakku
Bisa saja kusia-siakan,
Atau kupakai untuk hal yang berguna

Tapi yang kulakukan hari ini sangat penting,
Sebab aku menukar sehari hidupku untuknya.

Ketika esok menjelang
Hari ini akan berlalu selamanya
Pergi tinggalkan tempatnya

Sesuatu yang tlah kutukar untuknya
Ku ingin melaba bukan merugi
Baik dan bukan buruk
Sukses bukan gagal
Dan karenanya aku takkan menyesal
Untuk harga yang sudah kubayar

Master Piece

A Song by Sandi Patty

Before you had a name or open up your eyes
Or any one could recognize your face
You were being formed so delicate inside
Secluded in God’s safe and hidden place

With your little tiny hand and little tiny feet
And little eyes that shimmer like a pearl
He breathe in you a song and to make it all complete
He brought the masterpiece into the world

You are a Masterpiece a new creation he has formed
And you’re as soft and fresh as a snowy winter morn
And I’m so glad that God has given you to me
Little lamb of God, you are a Masterpiece.

And now you’re growing up, your life’s a miracle
Every time I look at you I stand in owe
Because I see in you a reflection of me
And you’ll always be my little lamb from God

And as your life goes on each day, how I pray that you will see
Just how much your life has meant to me
And I’m so proud of you, what else is there to say
Just be the masterpiece
He created you to be.
You are a Masterpiece a new creation he has formed
And you’re as soft and fresh as a snowy winter morn
And I’m so glad that God has given you to me
Little lamb of God, you are a Masterpiece.
You are a Masterpiece.

The Lord is My Shepherd - Psalm 23

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

terjemahan bhs Indonesia ...

Ia membimbing aku ke air yang tenang;
Ia menyegarkan jiwaku.
aku tidak takut bahaya, sebab Engkau besertaku;
gada-Mu dan tongkat-Mu, itulah yang menghibur aku.

Engkau menyediakan hidangan bagiku, di hadapan lawanku;
Engkau mengurapi kepalaku dengan minyak;
pialaku penuh melimpah.

Kebajikan dan kemurahan belaka akan mengikuti aku, seumur hidupku;

NO MAN IS AN ISLAND - a song

NO MAN IS AN ISLAND"
Alpha Sigma Omega 1962 Theme Song

No man is an island,
no man stands alone
Each man’s joy is joy to me,
each man’s grief is my own

We need one another,
so I will defend
each man as my bröthär,
each man as my friend

I saw the people gather,
I heard the music starts
The song that they were singing
is ringing in my heart

No man is an island, no man stands alone
Each man’s joy is joy to me, each man’s grief is my own
We need one another, so I will defend
each man as my bröthär, each man as my friend.

from Habakuk Prayer - Bible

Habakuk 3 : 17 - 19

From Bible - Basic English

For though the fig-tree has no flowers,
and there is no fruit on the vine,
and work on the olive comes to nothing,
and the fields give no food;
and the flock is cut off from its resting-place,
and there is no herd in the cattle-house:

Still, I will be glad in the Lord, my joy will be in the God of my salvation

The Lord God is my strength,
and he makes my feet like roes’ feet, guiding me on my high places.
For the chief music-maker on corded instruments.

Children Learn What They Live - by Dorothy Law Nolte

If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.
If children live with ridicule, they learn to be shy.
If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.
If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.
If children live with tolerance, they learn to be patient.
If children live with praise, they learn to appreciate.
If children live with acceptance, they learn to love.
If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.
If children live with honesty, they learn truthfulness.
If children live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves and others.
If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in which to live.

Build Me a Son, O Lord - by Douglas MacArthur

Build me a son, O Lord,
who will be strong enough to know when he is weak,
and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid;
one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat,
and humble and gentle in victory.

Build me a son whose wishbone will not be where his backbone should be;
a son who will know Thee and that to know himself is the foundation stone of knowledge.
Lead him, I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort,
but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge.
Here let him learn to stand up in the storm;
here let him learn compassion for those who fail.

Build me a son whose heart will be clean,
whose goal will be high;
a son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men;
one who will learn to laugh, yet never forget how to weep;
one who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past.

And after all these things are his, add, I pray, enough of a sense of humor,
so that he may always be serious, yet never take himself too seriously.
Give him humility, so that he may always remember the simplicity of greatness,
the open mind of true wisdom, the meekness of true strength.

Then I, his father, will dare to whisper, “I have not lived in vain.”

**A prayer from one General Douglas MacArthur to the Heavenly Father over his son.

Youth - by Samuel Ullman

Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind;
it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees;
it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination,
a vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life.

Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage
over timidity of the appetite, for adventure over the love of ease.
This often exists in a man of sixty more than a boy of twenty.
Nobody grows old merely by a number of years.
We grow old by deserting our ideals.

Years may wrinkle the skin,
but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.
Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust.

Whether sixty or sixteen,
there is in every human being's heart the lure of wonder,
the unfailing child-like appetite of what's next,
and the joy of the game of living.
In the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station;
so long as it receives messages
of beauty, hope, cheer, courage and power from men
and from the infinite, so long are you young.

When the aerials are down,
and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism,
then you are grown old, even at twenty,
but as long as your aerials are up, to catch the waves of optimism,
there is hope you may die young at eighty.

An Uncommon Man by Dean Alfange

I do not choose to be a common man.
It is my right to be uncommon, if I can.
I seek opportunity, not security.
I do not wish to be a kept citizen, humbled and dulled by having thestate look after me.

I want to take the calculated risk;
to dream and to build, to fail and to succeed.
I refuse to barter incentive for a dole.
I prefer the challenges of life to the guaranteed existence;
the thrill of fulfillment to the stale clam of utopia.

I will not trade freedom for beneficence nor my dignity for a handout.
I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat.
It is my hertiage to stand erect, proud, and unafraid;
to think and act for myself, enjoy the benefits of my creations
and face the world boldly and say: This I have done.

Equipment - Edgar Albert Guest

EQUIPMENT

by Edgar Albert Guest (1881-1959)

Figure it out for yourself, my lad,
You've all that the greatest of men have had,
Two arms, two hands, two legs, two eyes,
And a brain to use if you would be wise.
With this equipment they all began,
So start for the top and say "I can."

Look them over, the wise and great,
They take their food from a common plate
And similar knives and forks they use,
With similar laces they tie their shoes,
The world considers them brave and smart.
But you've all they had when they made their start.

You can triumph and come to skill,
You can be great if only you will,
You're well equipped for what fight you choose,
You have legs and arms and a brain to use,
And the man who has risen, great deeds to do
Began his life with no more than you.

You are the handicap you must face,
You are the one who must choose your place,
You must say where you want to go.
How much you will study the truth to know,
God has equipped you for life, But He
Lets you decide what you want to be.

Courage must come from the soul within,
The man must furnish the will to win,
So figure it out for yourself, my lad,
You were born with all that the great have had,
With your equipment they all began.
Get hold of yourself, and say: "I can."
